Zimbabwe is on the brink of a major constitutional turning point. Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) has cleared the National Assembly and is now moving through the Senate, threatening to rewrite the rules of power in the country: ending the direct presidential vote, extending executive terms, and tightening state control over elections.

How did Zimbabwe reach this moment? And what happens after the vote is cast?

The fight over CAB3 has exposed deep political fractures: opposition MPs accused of breaking ranks, public consultations marred by intimidation and violence, and activists, lawyers, and citizens targeted by authorities for speaking out. This is not only a crisis for Zimbabwe, but a warning sign for the region, the continent, and anyone concerned about the future of democratic rule.

Join us at The Resistance Bureau for a live post-mortem on Zimbabwe’s new constitutional reality, featuring voices from the front lines: an MP who voted against the bill, a youth leader confronting generational disenfranchisement, a regional voice on the implications for Southern Africa, and a representative from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights with firsthand insight into state harassment during the public hearing process.

With the parliamentary battle nearly over, urgent questions still remain: What form of resistance is possible? How can Zimbabweans hold power to account? And what does CAB3 mean for Zimbabwe’s democratic future? RSVP and tune in for a timely conversation on the aftermath of CAB3 and the continuing struggle for democracy and freedom in Zimbabwe.
